The brief

Full bespoke AV installation using RCF Speakers and netvio AVoIP technology to provide multi screen sports

02

The approach

Netvio AVoIP was used to provide the multi‑screen video routing required for live sport. Symetrix DSP was implemented to centralise audio processing, zone mixing and to provide control endpoints for tablet interfaces. RCF loudspeakers were installed per the project brief.

The result

Multi‑screen sports distribution using Netvio AVoIP, Symetrix DSP for zoned audio processing and RCF loudspeakers installed with tablet control for staff.

The brief

Box Sheffield required a full AV installation capable of delivering multi‑screen sports content around the venue while providing robust zoned audio and straightforward, tablet‑based control for staff. The project brief specified RCF loudspeakers and Netvio AVoIP technology as the core audio and video platforms.

The delivery challenge

Two clearly stated constraints shaped delivery: first, the venue needed reliable multi‑screen video distribution for live sport; second, all AV functions had to be controllable via simple tablet apps for front‑of‑house staff. The venue layout and the requirement to run multiple simultaneous video streams increased system complexity and demanded an architecture that separated AV routing from user control.

Design decisions

Pro Technical defined a system architecture that separated media distribution, audio processing and user control. Netvio AVoIP was selected for video distribution in order to route multiple high‑resolution video sources to multiple display endpoints across the venue. Symetrix DSP was specified to provide centralized audio processing, zone mixing and routing, and to present control points for the tablet‑based interfaces. RCF loudspeakers were selected as the installed loudspeaker family in line with the project brief.

Design decisions adhered strictly to the supplied requirements: Netvio for multi‑screen sports distribution; Symetrix DSP for audio processing and control integration; and RCF loudspeakers for venue sound reproduction. Where necessary, the architecture provided dedicated AV network segments to separate AVoIP traffic from other venue IP traffic and to ensure predictable latency and bandwidth for live sport.

Equipment and system architecture

The installed architecture combined three primary technology domains.

Video distribution: A Netvio AVoIP matrix formed the backbone of the venue's video distribution. The Netvio system enabled multiple live sport sources to be encoded and routed over the venue network to individual screens and an LED display, supporting concurrent destination assignments required during peak events.

Audio processing and distribution: A Symetrix DSP platform handled input routing, EQ, dynamics, and zone mixing. The DSP provided the zone logic required to feed different areas independently while maintaining centralised system management and monitoring.

Loudspeakers and amplification: The public address and background music loudspeaker specification used RCF speaker models as requested in the brief. Amplification and any required rack‑mount infrastructure were integrated to match the RCF loudspeaker sensitivity and venue zoning.

Control: The system presented commands and status to tablet‑based control apps. Control functions included source selection for screens, volume and zone control, and basic prescriptive presets for common venue states (for example: sports mode, quiet background music). Control integration routes were exposed from the Symetrix DSP and the Netvio control interface to the venue tablets.

Installation

Pro Technical completed the cabling, rack installation and physical mounting of speakers and screens in accordance with the design architecture. Network segmentation for AV over IP was implemented on site to segregate AVoIP traffic. Racks were populated with the Netvio encoders/decoders, Symetrix DSP, amplification and network switches. Speaker placement and mounting locations followed the acoustic zoning established during the site survey to ensure even coverage and consistent background levels across public areas without intruding on neighbouring spaces used for other activities.

Commissioning

Commissioning focused on two principal activities: media distribution validation and audio tuning. Netvio endpoints were tested with multiple live video sources to confirm simultaneous distribution to the LED display and venue screens. The Symetrix DSP was configured and tuned per zone with parametric EQ and level setting to ensure intelligibility and consistent SPL across zones. Control pages for the tablet apps were finalised, exposing source selection and zone volume controls while keeping the user interface intentionally limited to the venue’s operational needs.

The result

The completed installation delivered the evidential scope: multi‑screen sports distribution using Netvio AVoIP, Symetrix DSP for centralised audio processing and RCF loudspeakers as the installed loudspeaker family. The system provided tablet‑accessible control surfaces for staff to select video sources and manage zoned audio, addressing the project brief and the stated integration challenge.
